Privacy-first design

No data collection. SoloGallery has no servers, no accounts, and no analytics. Your photos, your face groups, and your search index never leave your device.

1. Introduction

SoloGallery was built on a simple premise: a photo gallery should not need the internet. This Privacy Policy explains how the app handles information, and the short version is — it doesn't, because it never has to leave your device.

3. How On-Device Analysis Works

Content search, face detection, and Memories highlights are computed locally using on-device machine learning (Google ML Kit and TensorFlow Lite). This analysis happens entirely on your phone's own hardware. No image, thumbnail, hash, or embedding is ever sent to a server — because SoloGallery does not have one.

You can turn content search, Memories, or face detection off at any time in Settings. Turning a feature off deletes what it had already found on-device.

4. Face Data

When Face detection is on (it is off by default), SoloGallery detects faces in your photos entirely on your device using a machine-learning model bundled inside the app. For each detected face it stores only: a numeric face embedding — a list of numbers (a float vector produced by the bundled on-device model) used to group photos of the same person; and a normalized bounding box — where the face is in the photo, stored as fractions of the image (0–1), not pixels. The app never stores the face image itself or any face crop. Person names are never assigned automatically; any name is entered manually by you and is optional.

Use. Face embeddings are used only to cluster photos of the same person for the in-app People view. They are not used for biometric identification or authentication, and are never matched against any external database.

Sharing. Face data is never shared with, transmitted to, or uploaded to any third party. The app makes no network requests at all.

Storage. Face data is stored only in the app's private on-device database in the app's own storage. It never leaves your device.

Retention and deletion. Face data is kept only until you turn Face detection off in Settings (which deletes all face data and person clusters immediately), use "Rebuild index", or uninstall SoloGallery. There is no time-based retention.

5. How Your Data Is Stored

The app's index — face groups, labels, album structure — lives in a local database on your device only. Your original photos are never modified, duplicated, or moved; edits are stored as separate, reversible instructions alongside the originals.

When you download SoloGallery from the App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google may collect certain information according to their own privacy policies, which is outside our control. See Apple's Privacy Policy or Google's Privacy Policy for details.

7. Data Backup

If you use iCloud Backup, Google's device backup, or any OS-level backup, your photo library and the app's local index may be included in that backup. This is managed entirely by Apple or Google in your personal account — SoloGallery has no visibility into or access to it.

8. Children's Privacy

SoloGallery is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and given the app collects nothing at all, none is retained regardless of age.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page. Since we have no way to contact users directly, it's worth checking back periodically.
